Don't miss "Funktionslust: finding a way through play" an original dance concert design on Friday, February 22nd and Saturday, February 23rd at 8pm. Advance tickets: $15 Vip tickets available.
Contact jenny@dancefx.org for more details.
Act 1 takes us back to our first playmates, those precious years of life when your work is to play. During these years a human's mission is to initiate play, find others who understand your play or those who interrupt your play but hopefully those who encourage your play.

As the evening continues, clouds of adulthood linger, the realization of a dissolving youth and overwhelming responsibilities makes it harder to find a way to play. Play becomes a stranger and we become a monster to our own adolescent self. We have to remind ourselves and others to not lose sight of what makes us happy and what we are each made for.

Act 3 illustrates what it is to abandon our inhibitions and rediscover ourselves. We are once again in tune with our Funktionslust, the thing we're each here for, what we're made to do and our individual ways of play.

The robert Ivey ballet presents:
peter and the wolf and
the angel tree

December 6th - 8th
college of charleston Sottile theatre

Picture
Performed by Robert Ivey Ballet Company, featuring local children from the community.

Peter and the Wolf is a teaching ballet which has been delighting Charleston families since 1979.  Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev was commissioned byet the Central Children's Theatre in Moscow in 1936 to write a musical symphony for children with the intent and mission to "cultivate musical tastes in children from the first years of school." The result was "Peter and the Wolf" which the Robert Ivey Ballet has turned into a must-see holiday tradition.  "Peter" is a light-hearted tale of a young boy, Peter, who outsmarts a hungry wolf with the help of his animal friends.  Full of humor and lively action, Peter and the Wolf features a dramatic narrative soundtrack which pairs each character with a musical instrument and identifiable tune: for example, Peter is represented by a piccolo flute, and the ducks are depicted by the oboe.  Robert Ivey's witty choreography showcases the talent of our Robert Ivey Ballet youth and children dancers.  Gorgeous romantic lighting, adorable costumes and a charming set  all combine to vividly bring this classic to life.

Peter and the Wolf is performed with the Angel Tree, a beloved Charleston Christmas tradition, in which local children perfom with our professional dancers, to create a Snow Court.  The ballet culminates in one of Mr. Ivey's most enduring works: a classical pas de deux, danced by our professional dancers; and the welcoming of the Star of Bethlehem while softly singing Silent Night.

Peter and the Wolf, and The Angel Tree, 44 George Street, Sottile Theater, Thursday and Friday December 6 and 7th at 9:30am and 11:00am, and also Saturday, December 8 at 4pm
